A little bit of Osaka/ちょっとだけ大阪を見よう/觀觀大阪

I went to the Kansai area during the New Year's vacation.  I spent the first day in Osaka.

新年に休みがあって、ちょっと関西に行ってきた。1日目は大阪で観光した。あまり写真は撮っていないので、ちょっとだけ紹介しよう。

新年放假我去日本的關西玩。第一天都是在大阪玩。我拍照拍得不多，所以只要介紹一點點而已。

一月一日の切符だから、なんか斬新な感じがする。

Our train tickets looked really cool because of the date.

 因為是一月一號，所以火車票看起來很爽。

この特急はめっちゃウルトラマンに見える。

Some of the express trains look like Ultraman.

 這輛特急火車的樣子好像超人力霸王。故意的嗎？

この店のチーズケーキは美味しいけど、それより印象に残ったのはテーマソング。店内ではずっと流れている。しかも、最初は「マグロ」と歌っていると勘違いして、後で「パブロ」と気づいた。（でも「マグロ」の方が面白いから心の中では永遠に「マグロ」として憶えておく。）

 叫做「新世界」的地區。雖然名字有「新」這個字，但是它的氣氛並不新。看起來幾十年前的日本一樣。因為我從台南來了，就辜負了一點。真的古早的老房子很少。台南比這裡更保留「以前」的氣氛。

There's a neighborhood in Osaka called "Shinsekai" (New World).  Despite its name, it's very retro.  Of course it was new and shiny when it was first developed, but it hasn't changed much since then, so the overall feel now is of some shopping area from many decades back.  This is the appeal of it though.
I was more impressed when I went 10 years ago because I went at an odd time and almost nothing was open, so it looked extra old and run-down.  This time though, there were lots of tourists.  I've also gotten used to living in Tainan where this kind of old-school neighborhood is still very common. And what's more, a lot of the buildings in Tainan are also legitimately old.  Shinsekai appears to only have a small number of actually old buildings as far as I can tell, so my overall impression was that it wasn't as interesting as I remembered it being.

10年前大阪に旅した時、新世界がすごく印象に残った。行った時期（12月下旬の平日）と時間帯（たぶん朝）がめっちゃ微妙だったため、ものすごく古臭くて寂れた街に見えた。その前は4ヶ月間関東で留学していたので、とても斬新だと思った。「大阪はリアルだなぁ！東京と全然違う！こんな汚い（いい意味でね）ところ関東では見たことない！」と思った。
今回は休日の午後に来たので、意外と普通な観光地となっていた。正直、ちょっとがっかりした。そのうえ、今住んでいる台南にも同じ様な雰囲気があるけど、台南の方がここより実際に古い建物が多く残存している。

 在新世界的「通天閣」。十年前雖然我到了時候打算要上去可是一看到價錢興趣就沒了。這一次也一樣，結果我都沒上過。（大概700日幣）

In the middle of the neighborhood is the Tsutenkaku tower.  I've changed a lot in 10 years, but some things never change.  Just like 10 years ago, I got the neighborhood excited about going up the tower, but when I saw the admission price of 700 yen, I immediately lost all interest.

通天閣。十年前と全く同じことを体験したけど、新世界に着いた頃は登る気満々だったけど、切符の値段を見た瞬間冷めてしまった。

 這裡是最直間地感覺到古早的氣氛。因為在「SHINSEKAI」的右邊寫「帶奧林匹克到大阪！」（沒成功的）

To the right of the "SHINSEKAI" letters it says "Bring the Olympics to Osaka".  This sign is obviously a little old.  It never happened, in case you haven't kept up to date on your Olympic host cities.  Japan did get the Olympics, but they decided to have it in Tokyo again instead of somewhere new.

新世界の文字の右下の「オリンピックを大阪に」はすごく寂しかった。結局また東京なってしまった。まあ、でもいいんじゃない？最近のオリンピックは経費が高過ぎて、多くのホスト都市は損するだけ。

 很久的電影院。還在播黃色電影。在現在的DVD，網路的時代，我沒想到還有這樣的地方。

There were some old movie theaters in the area.  The buildings themselves were interesting, but it was also interesting that mixed in with the normal movies, they also still screen adult movies.  It's amazing that a place like this can still exist in this age of DVDs and internet.

昔ながらの映画館。エロビデオも流している！こんなDVDやインターネットが普及した時代にまさかこんなところがまだあると吃驚した。

 （這裡也有一點辜負。建築樣子很好，可是沒有像台南的全美戲院一樣手筆的海報。）

 大阪的捷運太漂亮了！

Hi, NYC?  Please take careful notes on this next section.  Note how the subways are really pretty and awesome looking.  Could we have that too?  Thanks.

Plush seats!

 地面もカーペットだった！ニューヨークなら想像できない。（まずはすぐ汚くなるから。）

Carpeting!  Of course, as much as I'd like to have this in NYC, it would take only about one day before it was all soiled and gross.  We're a bunch of animals.

 味園ビル。中もちょっと見てみた。でも何のサービスも受けとらん。彼女と一緒に旅していたから当たり前さぁ！

Night View of Buddhas/仏像と夜景/佛像和夜景

These photos were taken from a hill in northern Kaohsiung Prefecture (near the border with Tainan).  There is a Buddhist temple on top of the hill.  The photos don't do the scene justice, but if you go here, you really get quite a nice view of the surrounding area.  While you're standing up here, every once in a while, a set of really fast lights moving in a straight line will go by below.  It's the high speed railway!

在高雄縣北部（離台南很近的地方）有這座小山。山上有一座佛廟。上山就看周圍看得很清楚。有時候也看到高鐵通過去！

高雄縣と台南縣の境目にある山から撮った写真。頂上にはお寺がある。ここで見える夜景は本当に綺麗だ！残念ながら写真はそれをうまく伝えていないけど。見ている間に時々直線で進んでいる光も見かける。その光は台湾の新幹線だった！

An Apartment with a View/すごいバルコニー/會享受風光的房子

Until just a couple weeks ago, the corner of this building was still attached, but when I rode by the other day, it had been chopped off.  What I thought was strange about it was that on the third floor, there are still some personal items, which makes it appear as if the landlord didn't warn the tenants before demolishing the corner of their apartment.  "What are you complaining about?  I gave you a beautiful, outdoor balcony!  Sure, there's no railing, so just be careful when you step out!"  (I assume the actual story is that the people left their crap behind when they moved out, but who knows?)

幾天前我騎過這裡就注意到這棟建築的角落被剪掉了。看三樓就知道好像還有人的私物。是由於房東沒告訴房客就開始施工嗎？還有人住嗎？怎麼可能！我想像就想笑出來：有天起床去上廁所，發現廁所不見了，代替有陽台。

最近までこの建物の角の部分は普通にあったけど、一週間前ここを通ったらなくなっていた。しかも、3階を見たら、誰かが物を置いて去ってしまったみたい。その物がまだ残っているから、人がこんな状況でもまだ建物に住んでいる様に見える。（絶対違うと思うけどね。）ある日大家は工事することに決めて、住んでいる人に連絡せずに建物の一部を壊したということを想像してちょっと笑った。

Cihu! You missed one!/慈湖に候補したい/推薦在慈湖設備

I saw this statue cluster in Tainan the other day.  It looks like a good candidate for entry into Cihu.

這些石像很適合安置在慈湖。馬上送給慈湖好吧？

慈湖に安置すべきものをこの間台南で見つけた。毎回見たら吐き気がするので、早速慈湖に送ろうか？

Bird Close Ups/鳥にズームイン/挨近了鳥群

These are just normal sparrows--and normally I wouldn't bother taking a picture of them--but I've never been able to get so close to sparrows before, so I decided to take some photos after all.  Thanks to the fact that the sun was shining on the window, I think it must have been like a mirror from the outside.  The birds didn't seem to notice me at all even though I was less than a foot separated from them.  Of course, the glass also made it so that the photos aren't very good quality, but it's still kind of neat that I was able to get this close.

我猜應該因為窗口的玻璃被太陽曬，所以它變成一面鏡子。儘管我只離這群鳥幾個公分而已但牠們都沒注意到我。平常我不要拍這樣很普遍的麻雀，可是這一次我靠近牠們這麼近，所以我覺得值得拍一拍。

普通な雀に過ぎないが、写真撮ってしまった。鳥の立場からすれば窓のガラスが日差しによってたぶん鏡になっているのだろうと思う。そのお陰で私はこんなに近ずくことができた。何センチしか離れていないのに、鳥達ずっと私に気づかなかったのだ。

Cheng Kung Cats/成功大学の猫/成大的貓

There's this single-family home type house on Cheng Kung's campus surrounded by a wall.  I'd often wondered what it was for, but the other day I discovered the answer: It's a home for cats!

...Or at least the wall is a home for cats.  Typical of cats though, regardless of whether or not it's the case, they sure look like they own the place.

有天我通這面牆前，就發現牆上有貓在遊蕩。看起來很高傲，這兩隻傢伙！坐著在牆上向下看看人，好像貓視我們。

成功大学のキャンパスに一軒の家がある。何の家なのかさっぱり分からないけど、この間通っていたら、周りの塀は猫だらけということに気がついた。猫の家かもしれない。もしかすると、猫達は本当の大家、我々人間どもにキャンパスの土地を貸し出しているのではないかと。事実はどうのこうの、きっと猫はそう思っているのだろう。
