Kaohsiung: Cijin Fort/高雄：旗津砦/高雄：旗後砲台

Continuing from my last post, after going to the lighthouse on Cijin Island, I headed over to Cihou Fort.  The fort is right next to the lighthouse, and it's easy to see why it's there.  Cijin Island almost completely blocks Kaohsiung harbor off from the open sea.  On the northern end of the island is a fairly large hill, and this is where the lighthouse and fort are: The lighthouse so everyone can see it, and the fort because from there you can see everyone who comes towards Kaohsiung.

旗後灯台の隣りに、旗後砲台も有る。旗津島は細長くて、高雄湾を殆ど防いでいる。清朝時代に、清の政府は高雄湾を防備する為に、旗津の高い丘の上に砦を建てた。これによって高雄湾に侵入しようとする船を見下ろす事が出来る。高雄辺りの海岸に他にもいくつかの砦が有った。この時期に、清朝は日本軍による攻撃を恐れたからこれらの砦を建てた。

我去了旗後燈塔之後、我再去了旗後砲台看看。在旗津島最高地點這個砲台高雄附近全部看得到。清朝時代、因為八搖灣事件的關係、清朝很怕日本軍來攻擊臺灣、所以政府把旗後砲台跟另外幾個建設了。

トイレだ。

The entrance to the fort, with signage.  It explains how this fort was built along with some others on the coast during the late Qing period, and how it saw some action against the Japanese.  The fort was abandoned during the Japanese period, but some new installations were built by the Nationalist Chinese government after the arrived in 1945.  Currently, it appears to be entirely unused.
砦への入り口だ。下の看板にちょっと説明が書いている。先程も書いたけど、清朝時代に旗後といくつか他の砦が建てられた。日清戦争の時にこの旗後砲台はちょっと日本軍にやられた。日本時代は放置されたけど、中華国民党が台湾に来てから、改めて砦の役割を果たした。現在はそういう役割がなくなって、指定された歴史的な古跡に成っている。

And here, just over the fort's wall, we can see the tallest skyscraper in Kaohsiung.

高雄：現代和過去

看得出來台灣人不太喜歡在海裡游泳。雖然天氣這麼漂亮、這麼熱、可是海邊沒有那麼多人。如果這裡是紐約的話、應該人密密麻麻。

台湾海峡に面しているビーチだ。さすが台湾人あまりビーチに行かないんで、天気が抜群にいいにもかかわらず、人少なかった。

忍者の格好をして、あっちこっち走ったり跳んだりする青年のグループも有った。

Some guys fooling around acting like ninjas.  They were running at the walls and jumping up them and stuff.  Good use of your precious historical heritage, guys.

これはもしかして国民党軍が作った施設かな。もうちょっとモダーンな物に見える。

Scary cave.  I wanted to go in, but seriously it was scary.

The main gate to the fort.  Funny enough, this is actually a dead end now, so all you can do is go out the main gate and look at it and then go right back in.

And that's it!  I would have liked to take more photos because it was so nice and sunny, but because it was so nice and sunny, I felt like I was going to die if I didn't get off that hill and get some water.
この日がめっちゃ晴れて、めっちゃ暑かったお陰で、いい写真がたくさん撮れた。でも、そのせいで、マジで熱射病に成りそうなところだった。高雄の夏をなめるな！
這天非常熱得受不了。我想拍更多照片、可是真的太熱就沒辦法了。
