栗鼠 or 松鼠？

この間、中国語の「リス」って言葉を習った。日本語は「栗鼠」と書けるだろう？中国語は「松鼠」だ。面白いね？

更に面白いのは、「栗鼠」は中国語でも意味が有る。「チンチラ」か「シマリス」と言う意味みたいだ。（シマリスは「花栗鼠」とも言える様だ。）

なんか、頭が回ってきてしまった！というか、あの「なんか」、俺がさっき、前の文に使った「なんか」はこっちでも通じるよ！台湾人の話を聞いたら、しょっちゅ耳に「なんか」が聞こえる。本当は「那個」（「その」とか「それの」って意味」）だけど、使い方は日本語の「なんか」にちょうど重なっている様だ。まあ、本当は発音もちょっと違うけど、台湾に着いて吃驚した！なんでみんな日本人みたいに「なんか」と言っているかなと。

また狂ってきたので、何も真剣な事を考えずに可愛いリス（もう漢字はよか、仮名にした！）の写真を見ましょう！

Squirrel action shot!

There are these weird black squirrels on campus.  They're not the same as the weird, black, Bronx squirrels, which, as strange as they are, are just a color variation on the normal, gray ones.  These appear to be a different species from what we have in NYC.  They just look kind of different somehow.

I mean, I guess it is to be expected that the animals here would be different since I'm on the other side of the globe and the climate's totally different.  Still it's exciting seeing animals I'm not used to.  I mean, look at me!  I went and whipped out my camera and took a picture of a squirrel!  When I'm in NYC I laugh at all the tourists who are doing that, and yet here I am doing the same.
