Walking Around Kaohsiung/

Kaohsiung is filled with wonderful things.  Things such as: Secret, Magical Paths to Nowhere
Mysterious towers

Parrots!
Werparrots?
And pretty yellow flowers.
Come to Kaohsiung!  It's pretty cool!

Delonix Regia/

I posted about the Delonix Regia tree a couple of months ago.  They're no longer in peak bloom season, though some of them still seem to have small numbers of red flowers.  What's striking about them though is that, even without flowers, they're still gorgeous trees.  They have lots of small leaves that are grouped together, and each individual leaf catch the light at a slightly different angle.  The trees look particularly good when it's a bright, sunny day out.

Western-Style Temple Lions/

I saw these lions in Tainan the other day.  Taoist temples often have stylized lions in front, but I've never seen ones like this before.  They look very "western".  They remind me more of the lions in front of the Research Library building in New York than they do of typical Taoist temple lions.

Sunset/

We were treated to a very pretty sunset here in Tainan just the other day.

Health Claims

I go shopping at Costco every once in a while, mostly for the big, cheap bags of coffee, but also to bathe in the Americana and remember the one contribution my home country has made to the world: big, cheap bags of coffee and jars of peanut butter.  Hoorah!

I noticed this the other day when I was there.  It seems that whichever governmental organization in Taiwan is responsible for regulating health claims on products does not accept the claims about heart health that Cheerios makes.  Every box had been inked out like this.

The View from Greenpoint/

I went to a friend's wedding in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.  It turned out to be in a building with utterly spectacular views of Manhattan.
