今天的話題是：燈塔！興奮！

我先搭車從台北到基隆，在基隆再租機車。在台北站時我注意到這個看板上，只有內灣的英文字很大。怎麼了？內灣的人為了讓自己的城市受到注意跟站長買關節嗎？

It's time!  We're headed to another lighthouse!!!  Yeah!

I took the train to Keelung before renting a scooter and driving around the northeast coast of Taiwan. I noticed this sign in the train station, and I wondered who Neiwan bribed to get their town's name done up in over-sized font.

今日も灯台に行ってくるぞ！ワイ〜ワイ〜！

この日は北東にある「三貂角」という岬に行ってきた。最初は台北で電車に乗って基隆まで行った。駅でこの看板に気づいた。なんで内湾のローマ字の頭文字だけがあんなに大きくなっているのかな？

台灣的東北海岸很漂亮。我喜歡這樣山區逼近到海邊的風景。但是很可惜，因為離台北很近，所以放假時候人真的太多了。也有大型貨車在這裡開通過，所以我一直緊張地騎車。

Here's the northeast coast!  It's very rocky, and the mountains come right up to the coast.  It would have been a truly beautiful ride if it were not for the fact that I was there on a three-day weekend and everyone in the Taipei metropolitan area decided to do the same thing I was doing.  Also, they let big scary trucks use this road, which is just stupid.  Make the trucks use some other ugly road that no one cares about so that those of us pleasure cruising can enjoy the scenery without constantly fearing death-by-cement-truck.

台湾の北東海岸はだいたいこういう感じ。浜はギザギザしている石でできている、山は海岸まで迫ってくる。とても美しい風景だけど、台北に近いから、連休に行ったら半端ないぐらい車で混んでいる。しかも大型貨物トラックもたくさん通過しているので、本当に命危ないって感じ。ご注意を。

Old mining structures left from when there was gold to be found in the hills around here.

以前この辺に金が採れた。その廃墟となった設備がまだ残っている。

到了燈塔其實花了兩個小時多。地方是台灣島最東境的三貂角。這個名字好像是從西班牙語來的。原本是「San Diego」。後來閩南的移民用這個漢字來寫。燈塔是照片後面的塔。前面是一座名叫「三貂角教會」的塔。好像它是為了引起觀光客的興趣建的，可是一次都沒有開放。因為這裡是台灣島最東境所以這座燈塔就是台灣島最東的燈塔。然後，應該也是台灣國最東的燈塔！雖然有一些小島比這裡位於東方可是它們沒有燈塔。

I have fast forwarded to our lighthouse destination here.  It actually took me a couple hours (with time for lunch thrown in, admittedly) to get here from Keelung.  This is the Cape San Diego Lighthouse.  No, not that weird tower in the foreground--I looked it up, and it appears to be some ill-conceived tourist attraction called the "San Diego Church" which has never been open to the public since its construction--the lighthouse is in the back, with the black top.  The Cape was named San Diego by Spanish explorers.  This name was then picked up by Minnan-speaking immigrants, and converted to Chinese characters which are pronounced "Sahn Deeow Jeeow" in Mandarin.  English-language materials still commonly refer to it as "San Diego" though, so I'm going with that name.  This is the eastern-most point of the island of Taiwan, and therefore the lighthouse is the easternmost lighthouse on the island of Taiwan.  I believe it's also the easternmost lighthouse in the entire nation of Taiwan.  The easternmost point in the country is an island to the north, but I don't believe it has a lighthouse on it.  This is very important.

着いた！（実は基隆から二時間ぐらいかかったけど。）三貂角（さんディアオジアオ）の名前は意外とスペイン語から来ている。昔のスペイン人冒険者がこの辺に「San Diego」という名前をつけて、それを受け継いだ閩南語をしゃべっている中華系の移民は現在利用している漢字を当てた。（中国語の発音はおかしいけど、元々の閩南語ならスペイン語に近い発音になる。）下の写真を見たら、後ろに黒い屋根の灯台はもちろん見えるが、その前に他の塔が立っている。調べてみたら、これは観光客を呼ぶ為に建てられた「三貂角教会」だそうだ。でも建ててから一度も開放したことはないらしい。この岬は台湾島の最東端だから、灯台も台湾島の最東灯台になる。（しかも台湾国内にはここより東に位置している小島があるにもかかわらず、そこには灯台がないので、この灯台は全国最東の灯台でもある！すごい！気絶しそう！）

有很寬大的墓地。

There's a large graveyard nearby, as well as some sort of crazy, weather monitoring or possibly military-related building.

燈塔後面有圓圓的門廊。應該這裡很適合叫朋友來烤肉！

An unusual feature of this lighthouse is this round patio out back.  This would be a nice place to have barbecues if one lived here.

この灯台の裏に綺麗なテラスがあるのは特徴になるのだろう。今まで他の灯台には見たことはない。焼肉パーティーをするには最高だろう。

因為1929年和1931年有船沈沒，所以日本政府決定在這裡建燈塔。1935年實際建完，1942年把燈換電氣的。雖然戰中收害了，但1946年政府把它修理好了再開了。

Some history.

１９２９年と１９３１年に船がこの辺りで沈没したことがきっかけで、１９３５年に日本政府はこの灯台を建てることにした。１９４２年に電気化した。戦争中被害を受けたが、中華民国政府は早速修理して１９４６年に再開灯した。

Behind this (locked!) door are the stairs up to the light.

這天出門很晚所以已經開始變黑了。下方的村落燈開起來了。

I had a late start, so it was already getting dark by the time I got to the lighthouse.  We can see the village below us starting to light up.

到着したのは結構遅かったので、うろうろしている間に日が暮れ始めた。下の町が光っていて綺麗だった。

燈塔也開起來了！

Yes!  It lit up!

回基隆去就去夜市逛逛街。也靠近李鵠餅店。我喜歡他們的鳳梨酥，價錢也不貴。

I returned to Keelung after leaving the lighthouse and was really glad I was on a scooter and could zoom by the huge traffic jam of cars by driving along the side of the road.  The people I passed in cars honestly may not have been able to get home for another couple of hours after I saw them; it was that bad.

Here's a Keelung bakery (Lee Hu Cake Shop) that I like to go to whenever I'm there.  I like their pineapple cakes, and they're surprisingly cheap.

基隆に戻ってこのケーキ屋に行った。ここのパイナップルケーキは美味しくて安いから好きだ。名前は「リーホゥービンディエン」みたいな発音になる。

夜晚的基隆是最好的基隆。

I didn't realize it until I got home and looked at these photos, but they contrast nicely with the way one points up and the other down, and one is yellow and the other blue, especially after adjusting the colors to make them stand out more.

色を変えてみたら、この二枚が面白い感じになった。
