Tie Non: At Athens / アテネで / 在雅典

上次我寫我搭船過河去雅典鄉。這個「雅典鄉」是在哈德遜鄉對面。週末可以搭船過去。

Like I said in the previous post, I caught a ferry in Hudson to go to Athens. The Village/Town of Athens is just across the river from the Town of Hudson, and they have weekend ferry service between the two. This is the ferry dock on the Hudson side.

前回言った通り、ハドソン町でフェリーに乗って、川の向こうにあるアテネ村に渡って行った。「アテネ」という名前があるからニューヨークにギリシア系の移民がたくさん住み着いたと思うかもしれないが、実は全く関係はない。ニューヨーク州にギリシアとイタリアの地名がいっぱいある（シラキュースやトロイなどもある）けど、これは単に西洋人はけっこうローマ帝国と古代ギリシアを憧れるから、この名前を付けただけなのだ。下の写真はフェリー乗る前のハドソン町側で撮ったのだ。

You can see the Hudson-Athens Lighthouse in the distance. Yes! A lighthouse! You knew this blog couldn't go on for too many posts without me visiting a lighthouse somewhere, right? We'll see it closer once we're on the ferry.

在河中間有一座低低的島嶼。在旁邊有人搭獨木舟。

There's a low-lying island between Hudson and Athens in the river.

ハドソン町とアテネ村の間に低い島がある。

Some people were kayaking nearby.

Summer in upstate New York is really just gorgeous.

我聽說這座燈塔可以參觀。我想要再來看看。

This is a very cool lighthouse. They conduct "occasional" tours from what I've read, so hopefully I can visit some time.

この灯台にはツアーが時々あるらしい。いつか行ってみたいなぁ。

And here we are in Athens!

アテネに着いた！

對面（哈德遜鄉測）有鐵路。

The railroad passes on the Hudson (Town) side of the Hudson River. There was some sort of freight passing by here.

向こう（ハドソン町側）に線路が通っている。

我剛才搭的船是這隻小小的。

This was the ferry we just rode across on, by the way. It was a small boat, and could only seat about 20 people.

フェリーと言っても、こんな２０人ぐらいしか乗れない小さな船だった。

Stewart House酒店。

Stewart House. This is an old hotel that I believe is still being used as a hotel and restaurant. It's a beautiful building and it dominates the shore of Athens.

スチュアートハウス。昔からのホテルとレストラン。

雅典有歷史指定特區。這邊老房子很多。

I wandered around a bit because there were neat buildings all around. This area of Athens has actually been made a historical district because of all of the neat, old buildings.

アテネに歴史的地区が指定されている。昔ながらの建物がたくさんある。

下面的「fracking」是「水力壓裂」的意思。用水力把石油從地下取出來。因為有人說這個辦法有風險所以抗議利用這個辦法的人也很多。紐約州長說紐約不要採用水力壓裂，所以這是感謝他的一張海報。

I don't think much of Cuomo, but I like this poster.

Frackingは「水圧破砕法」という意味。採油する方法の一つだ。最近アメリカでこの方法はけっこう利用されているが、本当に安全かどうかが話題になっている。ニューヨーク州知事は研究がまだ十分進んでいないから水圧破砕法によっての採油に許可しないと言い出した。それを感謝しているポスター。デザインがいいから写真を撮った。
