Eternal Spring: Part Four /

We're back in central Hungchwun!  Since we came back from the east, we've entered the city right where the old East Gate is.  Aside from the gate itself, there is also a fair amount of the wall here.  It appears that it has been fixed up quite a bit in recent years, and you can walk along the top for a good couple hundred feet in either direction.

A map of town.

Here's the gate.  This one, like the West Gate, no longer has a tower on top.

Some history:

You can see that the wall stretches for quite a ways to the south.

The top of the gate.

Looking south along the wall.

The view of the town.  Nothing to see here.

The weird structure in the background is this climbing tower that is used in an annual festival held in Hungchwun.

The wall was removed to make way for a street, but it continues to the north all the way up to the North Gate.

An election poster peers at us through the hole.

I walked south along the wall to see what was down there.

The area right next to the wall on the east side is very overgrown.

Probably because of all of the plants in the area, there were a lot of birds.

The wall peters out here.

There is also this strange elevated structure at the end of the wall so that you can continue walking right over the grounds of this local school.

More birds.

And now we've returned to the East Gate.  Here we are standing on the outside (the east side) of the gate.  We can see its name written above the entrance.

Next up is the last of the four gates, the North Gate!
