Orchid Island: Liquid Cats/蘭嶼：液体状態の猫/蘭嶼：液態的貓

蘭嶼最後一篇。這些照片包括在蘭第二天下午至第三天早上。

This is my last post about Orchid Island.  These photos are from the afternoon of my second day there through the morning of my third day there.

これが蘭嶼最後のポストだ。二日目の午後から三日目の朝にかけて紹介しよう。

事實：雖然貓是動物，可是牠們的身體不是固體。如貓專心可以暫時模仿固體，但牠們原來是液體。一看睡覺的貓就知道。

這裡的海邊有冷泉。（在蘭嶼東海岸。）因為地形是珊瑚礁做的石頭，所以有很多窪地。你可以進去欣賞泡半淡半鹹水的池塘。

There's a natural cold spring on the east coast of the island that comes out near the coast and mixes with the sea water there.  Because the coast here is made up of former coral reefs (I think) the landscape is very rough and there are a lot of places where the water pools.

島の東海岸に冷泉が出ている。海沿いだから、淡水と海水が混じる。また、珊瑚礁でできている岩が連なる海岸には窪みがたくさんあるので、入ってゆっくりできる風呂場の様なところがいっぱいある。

Lots of people come here to swim/wade around.

第二天晚上我去青青草原。蘭嶼大部分都是山，還是很凹凸不平的平地。只有這裡土地比較平也包括比較多營養物質所以有寬大的草地。（其實，看下面我介紹大天池時你可以看到從山上看到的這個青青草原。下山時候我拍到了。）

In the evening, I went to "Qingqingtsaoyuan" (Blue blue grass field) which despite the name has nothing to do with Kentucky.  Most of Orchid Island is mountainous, and even the lowlands around the coast are mostly pretty porous and rough.  This one spot though has more nutritious soil and as a result these beautiful grass fields have developed here.

二日目の夜に「青青草原」（ちんちんツァオユエン）に行ってみた。この島の地形は基本的に真ん中が山ばかり、そして海岸沿いはヘコボコが多くて、草原が広々としているのはここしかない。

隔天（第三天）我要去爬山看「大天池」。我再一次經過這個很寂莫的蔣介石前面。

On the third day on the island I got up in the morning to go to Datianchih, a natural pond on top of a mountain.  On the way, I passed by this lonely-looking Chiang Kai-shek bust again.

翌日（三日目）「大天池」というところに行ってみた。途中でまたこの寂しそうな蒋介石の前を通った。

大天池是跟我上次介紹的小天池一樣，在山上的凹地。但跟小天池不一樣大天池常常有水。爬山的話，要從山下開始爬，所以必須的時間比較多。我花了一個小時多才爬完了。有的地方也是很難走，再說因為步道在蘭嶼西部所以最好是早上去爬的免得曬太多太陽。（人也比較少。）因為我早早地去，所以爬上去時人少獸多。比如說：蜥蜴

Datianchih (and the path up to it) is one of Orchid Island's coolest natural features.  Even though it's up on top of a mountain, a pond has formed there.  Getting to the pond requires a little over an hour of walking uphill, with a couple of sections where you have to climb with the help of ropes that have been put in place.  My advice is to go early.  There will be fewer people (and therefore more animals) and you can avoid the heat.  The path is on the west side of a mountain, so if you go early enough you can avoid being in the direct sunlight the entire hike up and down.

大天池は前紹介した「小天池」と同じく山上の窪みだ。でも小天池と違って、大天池は常に水が溜まっている。行くなら朝早く行った方がいい。平地から登るので、一時間以上必要となると考えた方がいいと思う。歩きにくいところもうあるので、それを考慮してちゃんとした運動服を着て行くのは不可欠だ。大天池までの道は山の西側にあるので、朝に行ったらほとんど日差し浴びずに登下山ができる。また、早く行けば早く行くほど人が少ないので、動物を観察する機会も多くなる。

Coolest find on the hike: This bright-green snake!  I wasn't even sure if Orchid Island had snakes until I saw this.

Thanks to the pond here, the area is crawling with life.  I saw a bunch of hermit crabs.

水が溜まっているお陰で色んな動物が棲んでいる。ヤドガリとか、、、

也有蝸牛。（這是牠們的卵）

下山時我注意到從這裡上面介紹的青青草原看得清楚。

On the way down, I realized that the path provides an excellent view of Cingcingtsaoyuan, the grassy field which I introduced above in this post.

在蘭嶼北海岸有一些洞穴在當教會。

There are some caves that are used as a church on the north coast of Orchid Island.

蘭嶼北海岸に大きな洞窟があって、教会として利用されている。

回家時我搭船過海回台灣來。很好玩！這天風很大，船像雲霄飛車一樣！因為我站在外面所以都沒有暈船，很開開心心地看蘭嶼島影啊，飛魚啊，什麼的。

I went home by ferry, which was extra fun because it was really windy that day and the waves were decently big.  I stayed outside and watched the flying fish, so I managed to avoid getting seasick.  I wouldn't want to have been sitting inside though.  I've found that just being outside makes a huge difference in whether or not you get seasick.

帰りは船で。この日は風が強くて波がまあまあ大きかったお陰でめっちゃ楽しかった。恐らく船の中で座ったら酔ったかもしれないが、ずっと外で風景や飛び魚などを見ていたので、全然船酔いしなかった。むしろジェットコースターみたいに面白かった。

蘭嶼很好玩！

Orchid Island verdict: Very cool.  Go immediately.
