Orchid Island: Goats and Lizards/

On my second day at Orchid Island, I went to the weather monitoring center early in the morning.  The weather monitoring center is on the island's "other" road.  Basically, the only two paved roads on the island are the main one that goes around the perimeter, and one more that cuts across the island, about two thirds of the way down from the northern coast.  The one that cuts across has to go over some tallish mountains, and along the way is the weather monitoring station.

Here I am on the road cutting across the island.

You can see some traditional Tao houses in the village below.  (The blackish ones.)  They're built into the ground so as to be more typhoon proof.

It was morning and there were not yet many people visiting this area, so the animals were out and about.  Here's a lizard.

This weather station was originally built during the Japanese period.  I assume this old building is a remnant from then.  It's very beautiful the way it has half fallen apart and been filled with plant life.

I thought this glass pane was very beautiful.

I saw another lizard here.  There's also a surprise in the upper right of the photo.  I didn't even notice it (the surprise) was there at first.

And the surprise is...another lizard!

More to come!
