Men(?) at Work/工事のかかし/施工稻草人

我認為在台灣這樣的「稻草人」常常配合公路施工。（稻草人的說法應該有一點奇怪，但是除了這個說法以外我都想不出來。）我在美國一次都沒有看過。美國施工現場只有看板而已。好無聊！稻草人比注意標誌更好笑，尤其是一直拼死拼活地揮手的模型。但不知道實現有沒有讓車子慢行的效果、、、

Street construction in Taiwan is often accompanied by these strange, mechanical figures.  I assume that the idea behind them is that people are more likely to slow down and be careful around construction if there's a person there warning them to be careful.  However, hiring an actual person would cost money, so these "scare-cars" are set up instead.  Sometimes they have faces, and sometimes they are jury-rigged to wave their arms frantically at passing cars.  I can't speak to their efficacy, but they are at least amusing somehow.

台湾の道路工事にはかかしが伴っていることがけっこうある。「かかし」という言葉を使っていいかどうか確信していないが、他に言葉思いつかないから、かかしにしよう。中には顔が描いているやつや、腕を振るやつなどもある。通過している車を減速させる効果があるか、ちょっと疑問を抱いている。でも効果という話題を置いといて、とにかく見かけたらウケる。
