2 New Years in One Year

A view from the Mandarin Language Center.

Question:  What country has two New Years in one year?

Answer:  Taiwan.

Ok, they're probably not the only country, but it's interesting that in Taiwan, both the Western Calendar New Year and the Asian Lunar New Year are celebrated.  The lunar one is a much bigger deal.  Most people get about a week off I've been told, and everyone goes home to visit their family.  The solar one is not as big a deal, but we are going to have this Monday and Tuesday off from classes.  I've been told a lot of places also have fireworks and parties and stuff.  Hey, why not, right?  Any excuse for a celebration.
