Tie Non: Stuff I Saw in Western New York/ニューヨーク西部で見たもの/在紐約西部我看到的東西

And now for something different! I was in western New York--in the Finger Lakes region--last week. In Tainan we've been sweating it out in ninety-something degree weather just about every day for the past couple months, but New York's summer this year has been mild, so I was able to enjoy a respite from constant perspiration. I was engaged in a week-long event while I was there, so I moved around the area quite a bit. I didn't take a lot of photos (nor did I take any really good ones) but anyway, here they are.

急だが、私は台湾じゃなくてニューヨークにいる。先週はずっとニューヨーク州の西部でイベントに参加してフィンガーレイクス地方を回っていた。最近台南の天気は毎日３０度を超えていると違って、ニューヨークの西部はむしろ涼しく感じたぐらい冷えていた。夜は時々２０度までも下がったのじゃないかなと思う。一応ちょっと写真を撮ってきたので、どうぞご覧ください。

我不在台南，我現在在紐約！上禮拜我去紐約州的西部。我一個禮拜住在「五指湖」地方。雖然照片也不多也不太有趣，可是這邊跟台南比起來氣候，樣子都不一樣。看一看！

I love leaves that look like flowers like this.

都是葉子。

こういう花に見える葉っぱが好きだ。

Willows feel like the temperate-climate cousin of banyan trees to me. They have a similar silhouette, even though they are very different kinds of trees.

今回の旅では初めて思ったけど、遠くから見たら、柳はけっこうガジマル木に似ている。なんとなく。

我看這棵柳樹，就覺得柳樹好像溫帶地方的榕樹。當然兩種樹是完全不一樣的種類，但是我認為它們的樣子很像。

The camera screwed up and the photo ended up out of focus, but it looks kind of neat actually.

フォーカスがうまく働かなかったが、面白い写真になった。

On a local public school. This means we can cut DoD funding and divert it to the schools, right?

「国民の知恵は国の安全である」みたいなスローガンが中学校の玄関に書いてあった。にもかかわらず、現代のアメリカは軍隊ばかりに税金を投資して、教育をあまり支えていない傾向が進んでいる。

在國中我看到這個標語「國民之智慧是國家的安全」。

This bug landed on me. It's very pretty, but I found out later that it's an invasive species and I should have killed it.

綺麗な虫だけど、有害な外来種らしい。後で知り合いに「実は殺せばよかった」と言われた。

很漂亮的蟲。後來我才知道牠是一種入侵物種。
