While wandering around Dasi, we came upon this building:

在逛街我們遇到這個地方：
"Chiang (as in Kai-Shek) Guest House" It's one of many buildings all over Taiwan where Chiang Kai-Shek stayed when he had to visit an area outside the capital. This one is interesting because it wasn't originally built for Chiang Kai-Shek; it was originally built in 1921 for the retinue of the Japanese Taisho Emperor who was visiting his Taiwanese colony. The current building was built a little later in the 30's. Below we can see some "Chiang Kai-Shek is awesome" propaganda.
台湾に蒋介石が使った宿がたくさんあるが、ここは特に面白いと思う。元々は大正天皇が台湾に訪れた時に、お使い達が泊まる為に建てられたのだ。下に「蒋介石、すご〜い」ってプロパガンダが見える。
在台灣這樣蔣介石有住過的房子不少。這裡有一點特別。原本不是為了讓蔣介石住建的。這棟原本是為日本大正天皇的隨行人員建的。後來變成蔣介石的一棟房子了。
I'm not sure what this little building (below) is, but my guess is that it is some sort of military structure. Chiang Kai-Shek was constantly worried about being assassinated, so all of the places that he visited have lots of defense infrastructure.
本館の横にこの小さい建物もあったが、恐らく防衛関係のものだと思う。蒋介石は暗殺を恐れて、彼が訪れた場所には必ず防衛関係の施設が備えている。
我不清楚，但是我覺得下面的小建築應該是防禦工事。蔣介石總是擔心被人暗殺了，所以他住的地方都有關防禦的工事。
There are lots of big leaves. I love these kinds of plants! (They're taro potatoes, or related plants at least.) They remind me that I'm in the tropics.
葉っぱのでかい植物を見ると、改めて熱帯に住んでいることを思い出してホッとする。冬はここに来ないんだよ！たしか、これは里芋の仲間だと思う。
我喜歡這樣很大的葉子。紐約沒有。應該是芋仔吧。
Whatever the building once was, now it's a storage shed for these weird float things.

The Japanese pre-war Era produced some very nice architecture, especially in Taiwan.
日本は明治から戦前の昭和にかけて綺麗な建物をたくさん作り出した。
在台日代的建築很棒！有很多好看的。
...and Chiang "Smarmy Smile" Kai-Shek makes an appearance.

Heading out of the house, I saw this sign which I found amusing. "Tinger" is a phonetic transliteration of the Chinese, but because of what "~er" means in English, it looks like this is the parking lot for people who ting. Whatever "tinging" is.
「Tinger」＝チンをする人？
「Tinger」就是「停二」的拼音，但是因為在英文「er」平常有「做這件事的人」的意思，所以看起來這裡是「為做ting的人的停車場」。可是，在英文「ting」不是動字，所以什麼意思都沒有。
And Mr. Chiang makes another appearance on horseback.

Random rich person's tasteless house:

這應該只是一棟房子而已吧？好像這個人想告訴我們他很有錢。

"The bush burned but was not consumed" Written in Chinese characters on the bottom. The Roman letters above the bush are Taiwanese Hoklo.
下の中国の字は聖書からの引用だ。「燃えたかど燃え尽くさなかった木」みたいな意味。上のローマ字は台湾語だ。
上面是台語吧。我有聽說在台的教會很積極地使用台語。也是本來想出來台語拼音的人是牧師。
We had to race back through the town to make our bus. I still grabbed a couple of shots anyway.
バスに向かっているところでもう一回繁華街を通った。
再一次通過老街回到公車停。
Once again, "Heer" is just a phonetic translation of the Chinese, but because of English spelling rules, it looks like some misspelled "Here Road". Which would be a pretty cool name for a road, really.
This is some random store's sign, but I thought the symbol kind of reminded me of the symbol for the Dutch East India Company.
下のマークはこの店のだけど、オランダ東インド会社のマークに似ているなぁと思った。
有的商店的符號。我覺得有一點像荷蘭東印度公司的符號。
